The Sun Valley ethos harks back to the good old days of a few guys in a room playing rock n roll music together, with a dash of country thrown in for good measure.
The sonic palette presented by this ramshackle three piece, conjures images of wide open plains, dusty saloons, cigarettes and whiskey. It might sound something like The Velvet Underground meeting Neil Young to have a conversation about The Strokes.
Post co-writing for the original Bumblebeez, lead riff master and vocalist Surya Bajracharya finally starts to show his true colours once again with some gritty, emotive compositions, backed up by younger brother Karuna on bass duties with fellow Braidwood boy Jed Stone completing the trio on drums. With each member adding their own unique style to enhance the bands sound and live performance, Sun Valley is a truly organic experience, a far cry from the polished, overdubbed math guitar bands of today, following a decidedly more old school, jangly approach.
Having played a dozen or so well-received shows in 2012, international travel beckoned for two of the members, so 2013 looks set to be the year Sun Valley will commit their debut album to tape. With all the demos already in the bag, it’s simply a matter of getting these three boys in a room together and hitting record… Once they’re in the same country that is!
